Notes from the Basement is a collection of short prose notes which record the theatre practice of Emma Denson during her work with Colm Summers. This blog is a living index of her reflective practice, and documents the work undertaken by her as a colleague to Colm, and assistant on various of his projects in New York and Dublin, beginning in 2021. Entries are organized either by enquiry (a question). All the material is written by Emma, and Colm acts as an editor. The blog is updated weekly.
“The Basement” refers to the rehearsal space secured by Emma for her weekly theatre exercises, which were staged in a Brooklyn basement. Emma Denson is a director and theatre-maker from Alabama, based in New York City. She is creative assistant to Colm Summers in New York.
